Rome
Morning / Afternoon – Arrival
Arrival in Rome and transfer to your accommodation. Time to settle in and rest after the journey.
Evening – Welcome to Rome
Welcome dinner and introduction to the pilgrimage.
Day 2
Castel Gandolfo, Tre Fontane, St. Paul Outside the Walls
Morning – Castel Gandolfo
Visit Castel Gandolfo, the historic summer residence of the popes, overlooking Lake Albano. Enjoy the peaceful setting beyond central Rome.
Afternoon – In the Footsteps of St. Paul
Visit Tre Fontane, traditionally associated with the martyrdom of St. Paul. Continue to St. Paul Outside the Walls to pray at the tomb of the Apostle.
Day 3
Holy Cross, Lateran, San Clemente, Ancient Rome
Morning – Relics of the Passion
Visit Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, home to relics traditionally associated with Christ’s Passion, including fragments of the True Cross, a nail and thorns from the Crown of Thorns. Continue to the Holy Stairs, traditionally believed to be the steps climbed by Jesus before Pontius Pilate, and St. John Lateran. traditionally believed to be the steps climbed by Jesus before Pontius Pilate, and St. John Lateran, the cathedral of Rome.
Afternoon – Early Christianity & Ancient Rome
Discover San Clemente, where layers of Roman and early Christian history meet. Continue to the Colosseum and Roman Forum, at the heart of ancient Rome.
Day 4
Vatican City
Morning – St. Peter and the Universal Church
Visit St. Peter’s Basilica and pray at the tomb of St. John Paul II. Time in St. Peter’s Square and the heart of Vatican City.
Afternoon – Art and Faith at the Vatican
Visit the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, where some of the greatest works of Christian art come together.
The Vatican Scavi and the tomb of St. Peter may be included subject to availability.
Day 5
Trastevere, Catacombs of St. Callixtus
Morning – The Heart of Trastevere
Explore Trastevere, one of Rome’s most atmospheric historic neighbourhoods. Visit Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the city’s oldest Marian churches, renowned for its beautiful medieval mosaics.
Afternoon – Faith of the First Christians
Visit the Catacombs of St. Callixtus, one of the most important early Christian burial sites in Rome. Mass may be celebrated in the catacombs, subject to arrangements.
Day 6
St. Mary Major, Aventine Hill, Baroque Rome
Morning – St. Mary Major & the Aventine
Visit St. Mary Major, one of Rome’s four major papal basilicas and one of its most important Marian churches. Continue to the Aventine Hill, with its historic churches, gardens and panoramic views of Rome.
Afternoon – The Heart of Baroque Rome
Walk through Rome’s historic centre, from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. Time to enjoy the atmosphere of the Eternal City.
Day 7
Rome / Onward Journey
Morning – Farewell to Rome
Breakfast and departure from Rome.
